Archives for December 2010

It is beginning to feel a little like Christmas

We have been pretty much homebound the last few weeks. The nights have been tough as the boy has been waking up so often, and I turn into a walking zombie the next day. I still cannot fathom why he can't sleep through the night, permanently.

We have also taken a break from home-learning the past few weeks and all K have been doing is play, play and play. We have also dabbled into some Christmas crafts on certain days to get into the mood for Christmas, and baking…Apple Pies have been regular feature on our desert selection at home.

K is always very enthusiastic to lend a helping hand whenever we make an apple pie. I think it is also the main reason why the apple pie never fails to taste extremely delicious for him 😉

As for the preparation for Christmas?

Christmas decorations at home to the minimum, the only thing 'Chrismassy' at this moment is the felt advent calendar that I have made for K (I am just not too thrilled about taking down Christmas decorations after the season ends). The prominent thing thing I have at home at this moment, are trails of fabric, felt and strands of threads around the house.

I finally started on working on some items with felt and made K his first 'toy'; beanbags!

And some felties that I have recently made for gifts for Christmas…

And a stripey little one that will be an applique on a t-shirt…

I really do need to step up on my handmade production of items. There's less than 12 days to Christmas!

On being employed

While having our usual chat before bedtime, K asked me this question about where I used to work.

K       : Did you have a boss?

Mum : Yes, I did.

K       : What is a boss?

Mum : Someone that manages you. The boss also makes sure that I do my work well.

K       : When I have a boss next time, I will tip toe around him and not let him know when I leave.

(Haha… quite crafty for a little one.)

Mum : Ah…that depends on whether you get a boss that is always watching you. Last time I had a female boss that was always making sure that I worked long hours. But mummy also had another male boss in my last job was quite different. He did not mind as long as I did my job well.

K      :  Is working long?

Mum : Yes, about 9am to 7-8pm. Almost 11 hours every day.

K      : Will you be working at 3.30?

Mum : Yes

K       : If the boss watches you, and you leave early, will they tell the police to catch you?

Mum : Haha…of course not. The boss might nag at you the next day or scold you for leaving early, depends on what type of boss you have.

K       : Working is not fun. And I don't want you to work mummy because I will miss you.

Awww…..

And he sure got the first statement right!

A ship, water and loads of ice cream

We took a short cruise to Malaysia the last 2 days and it was tremendous fun for the boy.Apart from the thrill of a stayover on a cruise ship, he had fun with the activities on board the ship, enjoyed ice cream during late hours in the night and was able to stay up late for both nights.

It was a kind of a finale to the end of the school holidays for him, since school is commencing in less then a week. For hb and I, we appreciated the family time we spent together.
