To the ‘little boy’s room’

I really wonder what goes through a kid’s mind at times.

K has this strange fascination; with how varied public toilets can be in different places. He tends to want to visit the toilet whenever we are at a mall/restaurant on the pretext that he needs to pass urine.  Dh discovered it after bringing K to the toilet many times, which mostly turned out to be false alarms. He then came to the conclusion that K always ask to visit the toilet out of his curiosity to see how the toilet looks like, but not due to a true nature’s call.

I tried to discourage this curiosity by telling him that there are lots of germs in public toilets and that toilets have a horrible smell from drops of urine from other people that stain the toilet seats/floor. That method did not quite work.  Dh took the sterner approach and told him that he will get a spanking if he lied about wanting to go to use the toilet. His method was definitely more effective.

Recently, when K asked to visit the toilet when we were having our dinner at McDonald’s,

Mom  :   Are you lying again?”

K      :   No, I’m not lying. I need to urine, I will really concentrate (complete with a gesture of his right hand for emphasis)

At least this time there was no false alarm.

I would understand if all urinals look like that in public toilets

So that’s normal with some kids? I was beginning to think it was some sort of abnormal obsession from him.
