Space and routines

Finally managed to unpack the last of the boxes yesterday, somehow, the last leg of unpacking just seemed to have taken the longest time. Nonetheless,I am very satisfied with the outcome. Hb and I have successfully gotten rid of most of the clutter at home, and what are still useful and hardly used are now packed neatly into the built-in wardrobes. I really do hope that this signals a start of a clutter-free home :)

Was able to ease into a new routine of having breakfast at home, savouring a cup of Earl Grey tea and doing bible devotion at the same time. After walking Kyle to school and back, I have alot more time in the mornings enjoy some 'me-time' and more time to mess around with my hand-mades 😉

Here's one of the hand-mades I have completed for my bedroom; a bedisde table runner. in teal and off white. The good thing about hand-mades is that you can always create whatever you like for the home, even if there is no such thing as a bedside table runner. My inspiration behind this piece is a reminisce of the 80s geometric patterns, minus the neon shades. I was looking to bring out the monotony of the dark brown furnishing in the room and introduce some shapes and the snuggly feel of my favorite fabric; felt. Next to the bedisde table is my $60 second hand lamp. Still extremely pleased with the price and condition of it.

Will be working slowly but steadily on my handmades for the little corners in the house…more to come soon.

No pretty flowers in our park

We have been given our first parent-child project assigned by his school; a flower pressing home-project. The kids will then be encouraged in class to do 'Show-and-Tell' to talk about the 'adventure' they had in the gathering the flowers and the process of flower pressing with their parent, subsequently, show a final product of a card/bookmark to the class.  I discussed with Kyle on the options we could take and he was initially insistent on going to Dairy Farm Nature Park to do his flower picking activity, but the lazy mom convinced him that he could get the same flowers in the neighbourhood park.

We ventured into the park, he pedalled along with his bike, looking out for flowers on the wayside. I recalled a certain spot in the park that had many butterflies and wildflowers a while back, but this time round, we saw nothing but bushes of dull shrubs.. Either we missed the season for blooming flowers, or the people sent by National Parks Board have been working hard to weed out the wilflowers, so as to maintain their flower-less and lifeless bushes and plants.

The only flowers we saw were a couple of Lantanas as well as droopy almost dead-like looking ones like these on trees, which I figured had little of its beauty left to preserve in a flower pressing project.

The other flower that we spotted were Fragipanis…pungent smelling flowers. The irony was that they there were the only flowers that were spotted thriving in the park, and flowers which had the symbolism of funerals and death in some Asian cultures.

We tried, but were disapponted by how there was a lack of decent looking flowers in our neighbourhood park. And ended up taking the easy way out and bought Geberas from the nearest florist. Maybe we could have better luck if we went to Dairy Farm nature park instead. Well, at least the boy had some fun pedalling to and fro and around the park

In the mood for some handmades

I have been bitten by the making-of-handmades 'bug' lately. Feeling more inspired than usual to start on plenty of projects.

It started off with the smallest softie that I have made so far at 4.5 inches, a birthday gift for my sister who is hard to shop for.

The little giraffe on Kyle's 'ba-ba' palms

This could likely be the start of the making of the menagerie of mini animal softies, will have to see how the handmade mood brings me to.

I have also recently completed a home aesthetic improvement project for a couple of awful-looking ceiling fixtures at my new home; I was enthusiastic to take it on as a challenge, as I believe that there is always something anyone can do to improve the aesthetics in a home, all it takes is that little bit of inventiveness and effort. Photos to come soon.
